Traditional tents can be a hassle. They usually involve erecting a pole structure, encasing it in canvas and then stabilizing the entire tent with spikes and ropes. These tents are also an enormous burden on campers and hikers. Pop up tents, on the other hand, are lightweight and collapsible. Using a pop up tent is easy and quick; you can usually have a pop up tent ready for use in minutes!

There are many types of pop up tents. One of the most popular is the umbrella tent. These versions have flexible ribs attached to the tent canvas.
They're long and thin and very easy to carry and work in much the same way as an umbrella: when you find a good spot you simply push down on the top of the tent and force each rib outwards. This expands the pop up tent frame, revealing a completely assembled tent, complete with a doorway. You can still use stakes to stabilize the tent to prevent wind from blowing it away.

The other common type of pop up tent is often referred to as a coiled tent. These tents have lightweight carbon frames, complete with a system of hinges and springs that allows the tent to fit into a small, circular bag. When you're ready to set up the tent you simply remove the tent from its bag, take off a strap and let the entire thing pop up and expand on its own. Coiled tents are usually smaller than umbrella tents, although they're even easier to use. They fit into a smaller space for storage and can easily be collapsed.
